North-east oil and gas waste management contractor Augean North Sea Services (ANSS) has made a key appointment to assist with its continued growth.

The Aberdeen-based firm has strengthened its leadership team with the appointment of John Coull as director of waste services. His appointment will aid the expansion of ANSS, which was established three years ago and has grown rapidly in this time, with staff numbers trebling to now stand at 125.

ANSS, a subsidiary of Augean PLC, is a specialist oil and gas waste management contractor created specifically to provide complete waste services for the North Sea. It manages all waste streams derived from North Sea exploration, production and decommissioning activities, including drilling, hazardous and radioactive materials.

It operates five bases in Scotland, four of which are in Aberdeen and includes its state-of-the-art quayside treatment and recycling facility at Pocra Quay. ANSS also has a PPC (pollution prevention and control) licensed site in Lerwick to serve the decommissioning sector.

John brings more than 20 years of industry experience to ANSS, including seven years as a commercial director with a waste company operating in the oil and gas industry. He will be responsible for the continued development of ANSS’s waste services onshore and offshore, including hazardous, general and radioactive waste.

Commenting on John’s appointment, ANSS managing director Simon Gibb said: ‘John brings a wealth of knowledge and experience of the waste services industry to Augean North Sea Services. This will be invaluable to the business as we drive forward our diversification and growth plans in what are testing market conditions.

‘There are many opportunities in all sectors of the North Sea which we remain upbeat about. With John’s appointment, and that of other personnel, we are better placed to benefit from them.’

Mr Coull added: ‘I’m very excited to be joining ANSS. They have been very successful in a short space of time, are ambitious and already offer the widest range of waste related services to the oil and gas industry.’

Alongside Mr Coull’s appointment, ANSS has also appointed two other experienced waste industry professionals. Mike Fawcett has joined the firm as an area supervisor at the company’s Woodside Road facility, while John Cleary has been taken on to manage operations at its Blackdog industrial site.
