China’s CNOOC Ltd. announced Wednesday that it has commenced oil production at the Enping 18-1 field in the Pearl River Mouth Basin of the South China Sea.

The Enping 18-1 field, which lies in average water depth of approximately 295 feet (90 meters), utilize the existing facilities of the Enping 24-2 oilfield.

Current production from Enping 18-1 field’s 3 wells stands at around 2,010 barrels per day (bdp) of crude oil. The project is expected to reach its overall development plan (ODP) designed peak production of approximately 11,800 bpd of crude oil per day within the year.

CNOOC holds 100 percent operating interest in the Enping 18-1 oilfield, which is part of a regional joint development comprising Enping 23-1, Enping 23-2 and Enping 23-7 oilfields.
