Halliburton has released CALIBR engineered flowback service, which reportedly applies advanced diagnostics and a collaborative workflow to continuously manage flowback operations to improve well productivity.

According to Halliburton, it also helps maximize water recovery and reduce damage to fractures caused during drawdowns.

Flowback is a procedure to recover fracturing fluid and remove other wellbore debris after a service is performed. Traditionally, flowback planning is designed to achieve high initial production; however there is a limited understanding of its overall effect on the well completion. Aggressive flowback strategies have been shown to negatively impact fracture connectivity over the long-term, which can result in decreased production.

The CALIBR service is performed by acquiring real-time surface data during flowback operations, analyzing this data to determine reservoir response and recommending adjustments for optimization of recovery and long-term performance.

Halliburton collects data through the SPIDR (Self Powered Intelligent Data Retriever), which produces high resolution well pressure information and provides greater insight allowing the service to be tailored across rigs.

“CALIBR is a first of a kind service that combines multiple areas of expertise, including data acquisition and real-time measurement, that will help operators improve the long-term productivity of their assets,” said Grant Roscoe, vice president of Halliburton Testing and Subsea.

Halliburton recently partnered with an operator in the Permian Basin to demonstrate the advantages of implementing an optimized flowback strategy to increase productivity. The well was drilled in what was believed to be marginal acreage, but, according to Halliburton, by using CALIBR, the operator was able to complete the well with the highest productivity index within their portfolio.
