Subsea World News has put together a recap of the most interesting articles from the previous week (June 26 – July 02).


Subsea 7 has acquired certain businesses of EMAS Chiyoda Subsea (ECS).

The acquisition, under a US bankruptcy code Chapter 11 Plan of Reorganisation, was confirmed by the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas and became effective on June 29, 2017.

The acquired business of ECS includes approximately 850 people based in Houston, Singapore and Saudi Arabia.


Aker Solutions has been awarded a contract to deliver three umbilicals and associated equipment at ENI’s Coral South project, Mozambique’s first offshore field development.

The work scope includes three steel tube umbilicals that will total more than 19 kilometers in length and connect the Coral South floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) facility to the field’s subsea production system. The umbilicals will be manufactured at Aker Solutions’ plant in Moss, Norway, and are scheduled for delivery at the end of 2019.


DOF Subsea has recently signed a new contract in the Mediterranean with Transmediterranean Pipeline Company (TMPC) to undertake the pipeline inspection on the TMPC’s pipeline system.

The inspection is planned to take place in Q3, 2017.

The scope involves inspection of 5 submarine pipelines between Sicily and Tunisia and during the scope, DOF Subsea will survey over 750 km of pipeline.


Gazprom has started laying the TurkStream gas pipeline in the deep-water area off the coast of Anapa.

The operations were launched with the command given by Russian President Vladimir Putin during his visit to the Pioneering Spirit pipe-laying vessel.

In May, the Audacia vessel started the construction of the TurkStream gas pipeline near the Russian coast, and the Pioneering Spirit is tasked to build the deep-water section of the pipeline.


DNV GL has updated its recommended practice (RP) on free spanning pipelines with project and research experience from the last decade on free span dynamic response, particularly on structural modelling.

The scope of the RP is to provide rational design criteria and guidance for assessment of dynamic response of pipeline free spans due to combined wave and current loading. Detailed design criteria are specified for ultimate limit state (ULS) and fatigue limit state (FLS) due to in-line and cross-flow vortex induced vibrations (VIV) and direct wave loading.
