The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) has granted Aker BP ASA a drilling permit for wildcat well 6507/5-8, located in production license 212 offshore Norway.
The well will be drilled about one mile west of the Skarv field using the Deepsea Stavanger drilling facility, after it concludes the drilling of development well 6406/3-H-2 H for Wintershall Norge AS in production license 475 BS.
Aker BP is the operator of the well with an ownership interest of 30 percent. The other licensees are Statoil Petroleum AS (30 percent), DEA Norge AS (25 percent) and PGNiG Upstream Norway AS (15 percent).
Production license 212 was awarded in February 1996. This is the eighth exploration well to be drilled within the license. The permit is contingent upon Aker BP securing all other permits and consents required by other authorities prior to commencing drilling activity.
