The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) has granted its first drilling permit of 2018 to Lundin Norway AS for well 16/4-11, located in the central part of the North Sea.
The drilling program for well 16/4-11 relates to the drilling of an appraisal well in production license 359, where Lundin is the operator with an ownership interest of 50 percent. The other licensees are OMV (Norge) AS (20 percent), Statoil Petroleum AS (15 percent) and Wintershall Norge AS (15 percent).
Well 16/4-11 will be drilled from the COSLInnovator drilling facility. This is the fifth well to be drilled within the PL 359 area.
“The permit is contingent upon the operator securing all other permits and consents required by other authorities prior to commencing drilling activities,” an NPD spokesperson said in an organization statement.
