FRANKFURT, Nov 2 (Reuters) – German firm Wintershall confirmed on Thursday that protesters have demanded a shut down of some of the production from oilfields in its concession areas in Libya.
An engineer at the field and a statement from protesters had said on Wednesday that protesters had shut down 40,000 barrels per day from the fields.
The statement from protesters from the town of Ajkhara said they had taken the action because of the failure of the National Oil Corporation (NOC) to respond to local demands.
“As we understand the action is not targeting Wintershall,” Wintershall, BASF’s oil and gas subsidiary, said on Thursday.
“We are in close contact with the community and NOC about that, but please understand that we cannot comment further,” it added.
